Singapore Previous 5 Dollars Banknotes

Many people would know about the different varieties of the Singapore Orchid 5 dollar (3 different signatures, 4 varieties), however not many people know about the different variety of the Singapore Ship 5 dollars. In the scan, zooming into the serial number, one can find a distinct difference in the font, size and spacing of the serial number. This is because the notes are printed by different printers, namely Thomas De La Rue and Harrison & Sons Ltd, the latter being the later issue.

Singapore Bird Series $5 Banknote

One of my favourite notes thus far. This note has serial no of 67 (low no) which corresponds to the prefix A/67. This note is special to me as the number 67 is an integral part of my life.

Framing of Banknotes

Banknotes can also make a nice display piece when they are framed. They also make nice gifts and conversation starters! This is one of the sets that I have assembled with the Orchid and Bird series banknotes. I also do sell these framed up pieces which can be personalized(your own choice of frame, notes etc). so if anyone is interested, you can contact me at my email!

Singapore Bird Series 500 Dollars Banknote

The Singapore Bird series $500 banknotes measures 181 mm x 84 mm. Its colour theme is green, with a Black-naped Oriole on the front, and Jurong Island on the reverse. This note is a first prefix (A/1) note.

Singapore Bird 100 Dollars Banknotes

The Singapore Bird $100 measures 165 mm x 78 mm. The front of the note has a drawing of a Blue Blue-throated Bee-eater and on the reverse are dancers of various ethnic groups. By chance, I collected this 4 pieces 100 dollars in uncirculated running numbers. Even though the bird 100 is still fairly common, its not easy to find them in such pristine condition with running numbers.

Singapore Bird 1000 Dollars Banknote

Singapore Bird Series 1000 Dollars banknote is sized at 197 mm x 90 mm. The colour theme is purple, and the front of the note features the Brahminy Kite while the reverse features the a Container Terminal. It was issued in 7 August 1978. Note that the A/2 prefix for 1000 banknote is actually rarer than the A/1 prefix, as only approximately half of the serial numbers for A/2 prefix were printed, as compared to the full A/1 prefix serial numbers.

Singapore 2nd Series of Banknotes - Bird Series

Many of you who are around my age, born in the 1980s, would have still seen these notes circulated when we were in primary school, mostly the 1 dollar due to the large amount printed. I shall provide a short intro and upload some scans of these notes.

The Bird Series of currency notes is the second set of notes to be issued for circulation in Singapore. Issued in the years 1976 to 1984, it has nine denominations, the same number as in the Orchid Series, except that the $25 note was replaced by the $20 note.

Each note features a bird on the right side of the note's front, a theme selected to represent a young Singapore "ever ready to take flight to greater heights". Standard on each note, is the Coat of Arms, a lion head watermark, and the signature of the Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore, on the front of the note. As an added security feature, all notes have a vertically embedded security thread, while the $1,000 and $10,000 notes have 2.

(Note that the print on this note is shifted left, comparing it to the other note underneath. This is an example of a small error note, and sought after by some collectors.)
